And... we're back to diapers.

Potty training was just not in the cards for us this weekend. We were all over trying it but it just wasn't the right time. Friday morning, we said goodbye to diapers and then Hudson went bottomless (no diaper or pants) for the rest of the day (except for his nap and bedtime). I showed him what to do when he had to pee. I expected Friday would be the learning day and not many successes. And it was.

He marked up our entire main floor. The biggest problem was that he couldn't tell when he had to pee, only realizing after when he felt wetness that he had peed. We finally had 2 pees on the potty at 6:30pm when Devin showed him what he was supposed to do. We celebrated, gave him a jujube and let him pick out a sticker. Trust me, it was a big deal. Then he didn't have to go again and it was bedtime so on went a diaper.

Saturday, off came the diaper as soon as he woke up. I was expecting him to kinda start to 'get' it because of the successes the night before. He didn't have to pee for a long time and when he did, it was like he forgot his accomplishments the night before. Even though we put him on the potty several times, he started to act like it was a punishment which is NOT what we wanted at all. He just didn't want to sit on the potty or even go in the bathroom. Then when I reminded him of the treats and stickers, he got excited and you could tell he forgot all about them. But then he wanted them and didn't want to do anything to get it.

So by the end of Saturday we were all getting frustrated and you could tell it clearly wasn't working. So on came the diapers and he couldn't have been happier. We'll try again in a few months but for now the diapers stay on.

Pottys, diapers & poop

As a mother, there rarely is a topic that is off limits. Poop is one of them. I've had to clean up after number 2's for almost 2 years now and I have never seen poops like Hayden has. He has blowouts almost once a day. It's crazy! And that's after we just went up a size in diapers. This kid can really poop.

Hayden has been soley wearing disposables for the last 2 months now. He's grown out of both sizes of cloth diapers and is now waiting to use the diapers that Hudson is wearing (Bumgenius adjustable diapers). So besides the need for Hudson to be out of the diapers (we'll work on overnight later), he's also taken an interest in going to the bathroom like a big boy in general.

So cue day 1 of potty training. I don't really have a plan but to reward the crap out of him when he does actually sit on the potty (we have one that sits on the toilet). He's been running around bottomless this morning and even though I've taken him to the potty every half hour we still have had no luck. He has, however, peed on the front door and the toy box. I think once he does it once, he'll quickly get the hang of it. Let's hope :)

Slow down summer!

I feel like the summer is racing past us. Summer is always so busy (and next summer with the move will be even more so) but I'm really trying to put the breaks on. I'm not ready for the cold and the snow and the being stuck inside for days on end. Slow down summer!

With time passing so quickly I thought I'd get a head start on Hudson's second birthday plans. Now that he's older and has developed interests, we're having a Sesame street themed party! I've gathered ideas for decorations and food and invitations so now it's just implementing the ideas. D might think I'm crazy for starting this so soon but with the budget that we're on, a little planning ahead won't hurt. I'm sure he'll be all for that.

The summer program is now over. It's too bad because he really liked playing with the kids and I feel like he's starting to get bored again. At times it's difficult for me to play with him during the day because I have Hayden to look after not to mention other 'mommy' related things to do like make meals, clean up, etc. But I try to get some Hudson time in each day. Soon enough Hayden will be big enough and they can play together.

Now that Hudson is older and playing with kids, I'm going to try to take him to the indoor playgroup held twice a week in town. We went last year but he was a bit too young to really play with the kids and just did his own thing. I mean, that's ok but kind of defeats the purpose of the group.

My running has been going well. I'm on week 5 now and trying to run 3 times a week. I usually end up taking Hayden with me and can run for 5 mins at a time now! Hopefully I'll be ready in a month and a half for the 5K! I'll just keep at it.

I don't want the week to end.

A week of holidays is almost over :( I've been enjoying getting to spend all the extra time with Devin and I'm sad to have him go back to work. I know Hudson also has been enjoying his time with Devin, he's been following him around all week and wanting to spend every waking second with him. So cute.
We've managed to get a ton done this week as well. We visited my parents, ended up buying our appliances on a ridiculous sale, and just splashed in the kiddie pool in the backyard. We've had a picnic, picked out our kitchen and fireplace, and watched episodes of Glee in bed. It's been a great week.
Hayden is now 3 months old. He weighs 16 pounds now and is quickly going through his onesies and sleepers. He is now sleeping 11-12 hours a night most nights so I definitely can't complain.
2 more days of holidays left so I'm off to enjoy every second!

On Holidays!

I made it through the weekend. By Saturday night though, I was pooped and counting down until Devin got home. At one point, when Hayden was crying and Hudson was bailing the bathwater out of the tub, I threatened a time out until he's 20. Lets just say I was glad to see Devin :)
It's been a busy week and an even busier week ahead. We're off to visit my parents for the weekend, and then Devin's got a week of holidays after that. We've been immersed in cupboard samples, window sizes, door ideas etc so we plan to make a ton of decisions next week to get them off our plate. This is supposed to be the fun part of building a house, and it is, there's just SO MANY decisions that need to be made. Some choices I really don't even care about but a decision still needs to be made. At times it gets very overwhelming.

See you in a week!

Single mommin' it.

Devin went fishing with his brothers this weekend. That means just me with the kidlets for 3 whole days!!! AHHHH!!
Actually things have been going much smoother than I thought they would. Devin comes home tomorrow around noon and Hudson has only had one time out so far (for hitting his brother) and Hayden hasn't had any fits of unconsolable crying. In fact, Hayden and Hudson both slept an uninterrupted 12 hours the first night! Thank you boys!
It's been a rainy weekend so we've ordered pizza, started episodes of Glee (which I'm now in love with btw), played school bus, and had a dance party. It's been fun!
Even though I've had a great weekend with my boys, I'll be happy to have my Devin home. An extra set of hands is never a bad thing :)

Nighttime is the hardest

Why is it that nighttime is the hardest when you are missing someone you love? As the sun goes down, the ache begins and you can't stop wishing they were near.
Devin and Hudson went camping this weekend (with Devin's brothers as well). This is Hudson's first camping trip and my first weekend without Devin and Hudson. At first, I was excited. Excited to have a weekend to myself (well with Hayden too) to do things that I wanted to do. No real schedule. I mean I can't even remember the last time I was able to lay on the couch and watch a movie.
So far I've gone for a run (and I hope another tonight), watched 2 girl movies, went to the farmers market, went shopping, and did a couple things around the house. Hayden is quite willing to do anything I have in store :). Plus he's not mobile so I don't have to keep my eye on him every second like I do with Hudson.
Last night, I was sad. I missed sleeping next to Devin and I missed Hudson-cuddles right before bed. Instead of the house feeling full of life and love, it just felt empty.
I'm enjoying my momma time and my one-on-one time with Hayden but nighttime is definitely the hardest.
